Re: Special Army Unit to be Deployed Before November Elections

This thing came across my radar screen on the email machine this afternoon, from a friend who happens to be a Charter Member of Team STORMBRINGER:

I will not send this out en masse, because I don't want to panic my readers, but this is serious. We have talked about this before, but apparently all the pieces are in place, which is truly scary.

Maybe folks in LA know about Ft. Steward (sic), GA. Let me know if you hear anything.

AND SO - it is up to Uncle Stormy as usual to put a lid on this thing and get everybody to settle down . . .

To begin with this thing is so full of disinformation and alarmism I don't know where to start.

Federal troops have been deployed within the Continental United States several times within my lifetime.

The way it works is whenever there is a situation (natural disaster or civil unrest), the governor can call out the National Guard (NG) - which should probably be more aptly called the State Guard, as it is the governor's private army.

When and if the situation is too large for the governor to deal with, he can request Federal troops. This took place most recently in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

If the event is taking place on Federal property, or upon the national borders, Federal troops are to be deployed. Joint Task Force 6 - the use of Federal forces in the counternarcotics effort - is an example of this. The US Army deployed the 82d Airborne Division to pull riot duty at the Democratic National Convention in Detroit, 1968 (at personal order of President Johnson) and then again to quell disturbances amongst the Cuban boat emigres at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania in 1981 (under Reagan's watch).

Another notable example is the deployment of the 101st Airborne for the schools integration situation in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1958 (Eisenhower Administration).

80,000 troops is about three times as many as currently billeted at Fort Stewart, home of the 3d Infantry Division, which is part of the Rapid Deployment Force - which includes the 101st & the 82d for a total of about 80K - this makes me wonder if the troops they're referring to are actually the RDF itself merely training for their traditional role.

There's a lot of despair & anxiety out there. My personal philosophy calls for coolness under fire, which means keeping your head when everybody around you is losing theirs.

The floor is open for comments at this time . . .
