Ex-Army chief's fears over plan for mosque next to Sandhurst

A former head of the British Armed Forces has warned that plans for a mosque overlooking Sandhurst could lead to attacks on the Royal Military Academy.

In a letter, Lord Guthrie says he is worried about the ‘security’ of the two 100ft minarets which will tower over the mosque, 300 yards from the Sandhurst parade ground.

And he is unconvinced by promises from the mosque leaders that
it will not fall into the hands of extremists who support a ‘doctrine of hate’

BRITISH SAS TAKES THE GWOT SERIOUSLY

HELICOPTERS READY TO CARRY SAS TO CRUSH ANY CHRISTMAS TERROR ATTACK

Helicopters are waiting on the SAS's football pitch - ready to carry crack troops to crush any Christmas terror attack.

Chinooks and Pumas were moved to the elite unit's Hereford HQ when fears of a Mumbai-style attack in the UK first emerged.

Army bosses put a "substantial" number of the Who Dares Wins soldiers on round-the-clock standby - set to go at a moment's notice. All other duties and exercises were cancelled.

Members of the SAS force are even banned from any booze over the festive period.

The alert is the most telling proof yet of how seriously anti-terror bosses are taking the nightmare threat of a "spectacular" attack.

The standby order has been confirmed by senior military sources.

But to protect national security, The Sun has agreed not to reveal the precise size of the force or how many choppers are involved.

The jumbo Chinooks - which can carry up to 40 fully armed troops - are usually based at RAF Odiham, Hants.

The Pumas - which can carry 16 - are from RAF Benson, Oxfordshire.

An SAS source said last night: "We haven't had this many troopers on immediate standby for a UK operation since the 1990s when the IRA were still active.

"The Government is taking the threat of a 'Mumbai' on a busy British shopping street extremely seriously."

Last week we revealed that some SAS troops have been moved from their Sterling Lines HQ to be closer to major urban areas.

The alert was triggered last month when foreign intelligence agencies discovered an Islamic plot to launch raids on European cities to rival the Mumbai horror that left 170 dead.

Home Secretary Theresa May has urged Brits to be vigilant. The official terror threat level is "severe" meaning an attack is likely.

An Ministry of Defense spokesman said: "We do not comment on Special Forces operations."

Armistice Day - Remembrance Day - Veterans Day

On this day in 1918, on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month . . . the guns fell silent on the War to End All Wars . . .





Veterans Day was originally known as Armistice Day; the original intent of Armistice Day was to honor the Dead.


In the British Commonwealth, November 11th is known as Remembrance Day. Poppies are displayed to honor to the Dead of all wars.

The poppies represent the blooms across some of the worst battlefields of Flanders in World War I, their brilliant red color is an appropriate symbol for the blood spilt . . .





In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

This Armistice Day, STORMBRINGER honors Benjamin Floyd Leavell, World War II veteran of the Grey & Simcoe Foresters and First Hussars Tank Corps (CANADA).


Ben Leavell was a hero in Normandy; on 25 July 1944 he was severely wounded by a German machinegun while trying to rescue his crew from the burning hulk of their tank - his story has been told many times in the newspapers of his native Province of Ontario, and also here in STORMBRINGER.

Ben passed away peacefully this past summer, July 27th, 2010, in his 92nd year; sixty-six years almost to the day of when he was wounded in France. He was survived by his wife Florence (nee Burgess) of 62 years, children Alice, Robert, Helen and Susie; grandchildren Melanie, Miranda, Allison, Ainsley, Lincoln; and six great-grandsons.








STORMBRINGER also honors Sgt. Phillip G. Crittenden, RAAF, KIA 20 October 1941; shot down over Charleroi, Belgium while piloting the lead plane in the first British Bomber Command mission of the war that was led by the Royal Australian Air Force.

Sergeant Crittenden was twenty years old at the time of his death.





To Veterans everywhere: Thank you for your sacrifice. Thank you for the Freedom we enjoy.

British Soldier Shot in the Face by the Taliban . . . Spits Out Bullet . . .

A brave British soldier who was shot in the face by the Taliban spat out the bullet – then walked nearly two miles for treatment before being rushed home for an emergency operation.

Lance Corporal Luke Reeson, 22, was on patrol in Nad-e-Ali in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan when the insurgent’s bullet hit his Osprey body armour.

But the bullet ricocheted off, smashing into his lower cheek and back out through his mouth.

Despite the bullet shattering his jaw, Lance Corporal Reeson from Torquay in Devon, managed to walk three kilometres with his injury to get medical aid.

The soldier, who was shot in May while serving with the 1 Duke of Lancashire Regiment, Somme Company, has now returned to active duty in Afghanistan.

Luke’s mother Kim Reeson, 43, has dubbed her son Desperate Dan after the strong-jawed cartoon character.

Sergeant Mark Leader, 18 years honorable service in the Royal Marine Commandos, says he acted in self-defense against a ‘dangerous and violent prisoner’.



A Court Martial heard how Sergeant Leader and his company commander Captain Wheelhouse burst into a tent where 48-year-old Ekhlas was being held and struck him around the head with a rubber boot, causing a cut lip, two loosened teeth and facial bruising.

The court rejected SGT Leader’s defense that he was trying to stop the man from escaping.

Sergeant Leader's character references speak of ‘calm maturity’ and described by colleagues as ‘a man of integrity’; his exemplary and unblemished record counted for nothing when set against a regrettable but relatively minor assault on an Afghan prisoner.

The Afghan was caught red-handed planting IEDs, and soon after the incident he was released by the Afghan police. A known terrorist is free to go back to what he’s doing - planting IED's and claiming the lives of NATO troops. Meanwhile, a good man's career of 18 years has come to an end.



Leader's own words:

"It was a split-second judgment call and the whole thing lasted about two or three seconds. I may have drawn the wrong conclusion but, given the same circumstances, seeing what I saw, I’d do the same again without hesitation."
