WHY GRANDPA CARRIES A GUN

An old Grandpa said to his grandson: "Son, there comes a time in every man's life when he stops bustin' knuckles and starts bustin' caps and usually it's when he becomes too old to take an ass whoopin."

"I don't carry a gun to kill people.
I carry a gun to keep from being killed."

"I don't carry a gun to scare people.
I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place."

    "I don't carry a gun because I'm paranoid.
I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world."

    "I don't carry a gun because I'm evil.
I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world."

"I don't carry a gun because I hate the government.
I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government."

    "I don't carry a gun because I'm angry.
I carry a gun so that I don't have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared."

"I don't carry a gun because I want to shoot someone.
I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon."

    "I don't carry a gun because I'm a cowboy.
I carry a gun because, when I die and go to Heaven, I want to be a cowboy."

"I don't carry a gun to make me feel like a man.
I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love."

    "I don't carry a gun because I feel inadequate.
I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate."

    "I don't carry a gun because I love it.
I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me."

"Police protection is an oxymoron. Police do not protect you from crime, they usually just investigate the crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess."

    A LITTLE GUN HISTORY

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.

China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.

You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information.

Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.

The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson:

With guns, we are 'citizens'. Without them, we are 'subjects'.

During WW II the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew the American People were ARMED TO THE TEETH!

The purpose of fighting is to win - there is no possible victory in defense.
The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either; the final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental.

"AMERICA's BEST DAYS ARE YET TO COME" - Ronald Reagan

I love America. I love everything she stands for. I love the freedoms I enjoy here, and I love the fact that America is the most powerful beacon for Freedom - which to me translates as Hope and Opportunity - in the entire world.

Having said that, here's a great piece I found on Donald Douglas' worthy blog
American Power from Walter Russell Mead at Wall Street Journal:

The Future Still Belongs to America
This century will throw challenges at everyone. The U.S. is better positioned to adapt than China, Europe or the Arab world.

It is, the pundits keep telling us, a time of American decline, of a post-American world. The 21st century will belong to someone else. Crippled by debt at home, hammered by the aftermath of a financial crisis, bloodied by long wars in the Middle East, the American Atlas can no longer hold up the sky. Like Britain before us, America is headed into an assisted-living facility for retired global powers.

This fashionable chatter could not be more wrong. Sure, America has big problems. Trillions of dollars in national debt and uncounted trillions more in off-the-books liabilities will give anyone pause. Rising powers are also challenging the international order even as our key Cold War allies sink deeper into decline.

But what is unique about the United States is not our problems. Every major country in the world today faces extraordinary challenges—and the 21st century will throw more at us. Yet looking toward the tumultuous century ahead, no country is better positioned to take advantage of the opportunities or manage the dangers than the United States.

    And HERE's one incredible reason why I find Don's blog worthy . . .

THE NAVY BOUGHT FAKE CHINESE MICROCHIPS . . .

    . . . That Could Have Disarmed U.S. Missiles

Last year, the U.S. Navy bought 59,000 microchips for use in everything from missiles to transponders and all of them turned out to be counterfeits from China.

    Wired
reports the chips weren't only low-quality fakes, they had been made with a "back-door" and could have been remotely shut down at any time.

If left undiscovered the result could have rendered useless U.S. missiles and killed the signal from aircraft that tells everyone whether it's friend or foe.

Apparently foreign microchips are often cheaper, but there are legal issues for defense contractors when going outside of the U.S. for source items.

Another problem are possible "trojan-horse" circuits that can be built into the chip, almost impossible to detect - especially without the original plans for comparison.

NO SUCH THING AS A STUPID QUESTION

The Commanding Officer at the Russian Military Academy [the equivalent of a 4-star general in the U.S.] gave a lecture on Potential Problems and Military Strategy.

At the end of the lecture, he asked if there were any questions. An officer stood up and asked, “Will there be a third world war? And will Russia take part in it?”

The general answered both questions in the affirmative.

Another officer asked, “Who will be the enemy?”

The general replied, “All indications point to China.”

Everyone in the audience was shocked. A third officer remarked, “General, we are a nation of only 150 million, compared to the 1.5 billion Chinese Can we win at all, or even survive?”

The general answered, “Just think about this for a moment: In modern warfare, it is not the quantity of soldiers that matters, but the quality of an army’s capabilities. For example, in the Middle East we have had a few wars recently where 5 million Jews fought against 150 million Arabs, and Israel was always victorious.”

After a small pause, an officer from the back of the auditorium called out, “How many Jews do we have?”

WORLD'S OLDEST BLOGGER

    . . . well if he ain't he's right up there - S.L.

93-year-old Blogger Recounts WWII Stories Online

    Zhao Zhenying

Recently Zhao Zhenying, a 93-year-old former soldier who fought against Japan, started Micro-blogging about his days in combat and he has already attracted a following of 3,000 fans over a few days.

Zhao was a major in the army of Republic of China (1912-1949) and the person in charge of security for the Surrender Signing Ceremony of Japanese Army in Nanjing on Sept. 9 in 1945.

Zhao graduated from a high school decades of years ago, and he could also talk to Americans in English fluently. Two years ago, Zhao's family bought a computer for him to watch news on the Internet.

A younger friend of Zhao, surnamed Lin, went to visit him and showed him Micro-blogging, which piqued Zhao's interest, and he asked Lin to help him to start his own on Sept, 10.

Lin registered Zhao's Micro-blog as "Major in the army of Republic of China (1912-1949) and the person in charge of security for the Surrender Signing Ceremony of Japanese Army in Nanjing," and published Zhao's first message with "Hello, everybody! I am Zhao Zhenying."

Since the first fans of Zhao's Micro-blog appeared, more than 100 fans started to pay their attention on the old man's stories, and the number of fans group increased to more than 2,800 within the short four days.

Many people greeted Zhao and wrote some commentary sentences. Seeing those messages, Zhao said they were too many to be replied by him one by one, but he expressed his thanks to everyone who cared about him, and he wished everyone to be healthy and happy.

Since Zhao's Micro-blog started, he really enjoys the surfing on the Micro-blog after his afternoon nap. In the several days, Zhao started to share his story, and told people what happened at the Surrender Signing Ceremony of the Japanese Army 65 years ago.

Many details of the event were all exposed for the first time. For example, he said all soldiers carried guns with them at the time, but they were unloaded in order to avoid accidental discharge. And it was actually only one person who surrendered, not two as is depicted in the famous painting of the incident.

Zhao cannot write words with computer quickly, so most words are typed by his grandson. In addition, Zhao's family members are all supportive of him, and they said his experiences were so amazing and precious, and they could learn lots of things from history.

WHEN GUNS ARE OUTLAWED . . .

China has witnessed a series of school attacks in recent years, most blamed on people with personal grudges or suffering from mental illness, leading to calls for improved security.

Two weeks ago a mentally ill man hacked to death a second grader and an elderly woman with a meat cleaver in southern Guangxi, and injured five other people.

CYBER WAR ALARMS GO OFF

Chinese Academics’ Paper on Cyber War Sets Off Alarms in U.S.

An interesting article appears in the New York Times regarding the vulnerability of the US power grid and a paper written by a Chinese engineering student.

A Chinese student, Wang Jianwei, above, and his professor, wrote an academic paper on the vulnerability of the American power grid to a computer attack. Scientists said the paper was merely a technical exercise.

It came as a surprise this month to Wang Jianwei, a graduate engineering student in Liaoning, China , that he had been described as a potential 'cyber-warrior' before the United States Congress.

The New York Times reports that Larry M. Wortzel, a military strategist and China specialist, told the House Foreign Affairs Committee on March 10 that it should be concerned because “Chinese researchers at the Institute of Systems Engineering of Dalian University of Technology published a paper on how to attack a small U.S. power grid sub-network in a way that would cause a cascading failure of the entire U.S.”

Larry M. Wortzel, a military strategist, recently drew attention to the paper.

When reached by telephone, Mr. Wang said he and his professor had indeed published “Cascade-Based Attack Vulnerability on the U.S. Power Grid” in an international journal called Safety Science last spring. But Mr. Wang said he had simply been trying to find ways to enhance the stability of power grids by exploring potential vulnerabilities.

“We usually say ‘attack’ so you can see what would happen,” he said. “My emphasis is on how you can protect this. My goal is to find a solution to make the network safer and better protected.”

Independent American scientists who read his paper said it was true: Mr. Wang’s work was a conventional technical exercise that in no way could be used to take down a power grid.Source URL: https://brownlowpictures.blogspot.com/search/label/China
