Theo's Mississippi rep has brought to my attention that Armon Sweat was a representative in the Mississippi House from Alcorn County, MS. This speech is apparently read on the floor of the house each year. A great speech. Texas, being a little more . . . proggresive . . . issued their first license in 1933. Like Mississippi, there are still "dry " counties in Texas today.
Our friend remembers standing in line with his Daddy in 1966 at the first liquor store in Jackson. Prior to that we went to the bootleggers who, as Rep. Sweat states, paid a black market tax to the state to sell illegal whiskey.
Me, I get my share of the good stuff - the "under the counter" sippin' whiskey - whenever I'm back down there in Pineland.
